Master: Mark Johnson

Mark began his musical training as a chorister at Doncaster Parish Church, where he also took organ lessons from Magnus Black MA BMus(Oxon) FRCO. He is a Graduate of the London College of Music. Mark further studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London with tuition from Kevin Smith and James Bowman. While at College he was a lay-clerk at Southwark (Anglican) Cathedral in London under Dr Harry Bramma.

Mark has been a school master for most of his career and was for many years Director of Music at St Joseph's College in London, responsible for all aspects of music in the College.

Mark has sung with many professional choirs, including The Temple Church, The London Oratory and St James's Roman Catholic Church, Spanish Place. Mark has an interest in early music and is a member of the vocal group Cantus firmus, a chamber choir specialising in this field, its most recent performances having been in Holland and Germany. He has performed with Sonnerie, a baroque instrumental group directed by Monica Huggett, in early opera. The first of these concerts took place in Exeter College, Oxford in March 2001 to great critical acclaim. Further concerts and a CD are under discussion. Currently Mark is singing counter-tenor with the choir of St George's RC Cathedral, Southwark, London.

Mark is a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a member of many musical and learned societies. He is co-founder and Master of The Academy of St Cecilia, a social and learned society with an interest in early music.
